Subtraction Workshop...

Today was an interesting and fun process of working along with the group to create a piece of Subtraction work. Me and Latoya decided to use transparant pvc along with an egyptian patterned fabric to create our piece. Using the pvc was challenging during the sewing of the tiny garment but we felt to persavire as we were corious of the out come even though we had trouble along the way. The contrast of fabrics gave an interesting effect with each one almost fighting for the form of the structure.

Future Beauty: 30 Years of Japanese Fashion is the first exhibition in Europe to comprehensively survey avant-garde Japanese fashion, from the early 1980s to the present. Curated by the eminent Japanese fashion historian Akiko Fukai, Director of the Kyoto Costume Institute, the exhibition explores the unique sensibility of Japanese design, and its sense of beauty embodied in clothing.
Japanese fashion made an enormous impact on the world fashion scene in the late 20
th century and designers such asIssey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto redefined the very basis of fashion. Their works will be shown alongside Kawakubo’s protégé, the techno-couturier Junya Watanabe, together with the acclaimed Jun Takahashi, and the new generation of radical designers including Tao Kurihara,Fumito Ganryu, Matohu, Akira Naka, Mina Perhonen and Mintdesigns.

Shelley Fox....

Philadelphia Florist, 2008.

Shelley Fox is internationally recognised as a directional and conceptional designer, Fox is one of a rare breed of modern designers renowned for her innovtive use of materials, manipulation of fabric and the developtment of unorthadox pattern cutting. The resulting designs re-define how clothing can be worn, constantly questioning conventions of practice. her work explores unusual and arresting themes. On both technical and conceptual levels. Scorched felted wool and burnt cotton bandaging, the use of lazer beams and sound waves that stirke the cloth with 'invisible heat', negative imagery printed onto fabric, the use of brail markings on boiled wool and morse code communication are all examples of her past work.

My thoughts....

At the same time it would be naive of use to assume a persons personality or dress sense by what they are wearing. However the in fashion Innovation the garments do portray a mood or a feeling in itself. This may not be what the waerer is feeling but however this is what the garment is saying to its on lookers. Language is spoken through Innovative pieces of clothing.

Hidden. Mysterious. Not giving inner personality away also may reflect defensivness, shyness or even myschievious character.

Eco mind frame. Nature friendly. Also matematical thought. Calm and Natural feelings reflected with colour and shape.

Deep thought. Sorry state of mind. Lost. Depression. Gloom.

Aggression within the wear, defensive nature or statement of authority towards others. Maybe even protection against others.

Innovation design can become a language to its viewers. I feel Objects looked in to with more depth can communicate feelings. Shapes can portray mood and thoughts. Both blatently using dialogue or just as a suggestion through colour and form. For example the above images may suggest...
